14.10.2025. At the heart of the Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO) 80th-anniversary celebrations, forestry innovation emerged as a critical player in building a sustainable future.

The FAO ‘From Seeds to Foods’ exhibition, held from 10 to 13 October in Rome, highlighted how forests extend far beyond their roots, offering tangible solutions for climate, construction, and agriculture.

Interholco answered this call by presenting two groundbreaking, ‘Made in Africa’ climate solutions that captivated visitors and dignitaries alike, including His Majesty King Letsie III of Lesotho and FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu.

“The forestry-focused display shows what forests can offer for people and the planet – from foods, to sustainable materials, to ecosystem services, to climate solutions,” said FAO Forestry Director Zhimin Wu.
Interholco’s exhibit embodied this vision.

The showcased innovations included:
- High-Tech Timber: Interholco’s glulam (glued laminated timber) from the Republic of Congo, certified for quality (KOMO, CTB-lca) and its positive socio-environmental safeguards (FSC and PEFC). This defect-free, highly resistant wood represents the future of sustainable construction, locking carbon in buildings for generations.
- Agricultural Revolution from Residues: Industrially produced biochar, entirely rescued from residues of Interholco’s FSC-certified production. This carbon-rich material sparked significant interest for its triple-action potential as a natural soil enhancer, fertilizer and water purifier, strengthening the vital link between sustainable forestry and resilient agriculture.

By transforming wood residues into a resource for farming, Interholco’s biochar demonstrates a circular economy in action—a promising solution pointing the way towards a more sustainable future for both people and the planet.
