03.04.2023. Interholco is proud to announce that, since September 2022, its engineered wood product line is KOMOⓇ certified, K-33417 for finger-jointed wood products and K-33418 for three-ply laminated scantlings, respectively. Engineered wood is known to be particularly stable and has increasingly attracted attention even for structural applications. Interholco is no beginner as it holds more than 10 years of experience in fingerjointed wood production.
‘Our customers now have the best of two worlds: Made in Africa hardwood and Dutch testing,’ affirms Interholco’s Project manager Timothy Schellens. Three hardwood species, namely Kosipo, Bosseand Sapelli are already certified. More will be added in due course.
‘Engineered woods from Africa meet the highest standards of reliability and transparency’ Timothy adds, ‘as verified by a reputable, independent certification body.’ Engineered wood at Interholco is produced by a team of around 80 professionals, all locally employed. Over the years, on-site training and relentless care upgraded the product, attaining a quality that is recognized by coveted certificates.
'KOMO product certificate' stands for hardwood that meets a set of technical specifications and quality requirements. All verified by an independent institution. ‘KOMO requirements address the lamination and finger-jointing; on top, adhesives, wood moisture content, strength and quality are tested; it is another way of checking the finger-jointing process and finger-jointed product,’ explains Timothy.
The laminated window scantlings that Interholco’s teams process in Africa already complies with FSC socio-environmental certification (Forest Stewardship Council®, FSC® C022952) and the French CTB-LCA 221 finger-jointed products certification. ‘KOMO certification is proof of our continuous efforts to add value on site, from forest to customer,’ Timothy concludes.
