05.10.2024. Looking for the ideal match for heavy construction, decking, floors and anything which is exposed to the outdoors? Tali doesn’t just fit the bill – it actually exceeds it. Naturally durable and resistant to fungi and insects (use Class 4), strong and very heavy (around 900 kg/m3), Tali sports an enviable fair tone, but is no fair-weather friend.
What is your style of relaxing? Enjoying the last rays of the sun with a small company or dancing the evening out with a crowd of party animals? Last year, we proudly supplied wood importer Global Timber with Tali decking boards. Our tantalizing Tali terrace is now celebrating its first birthday! Make yourself at home: brief, benefits and price, it’s all in the interview below!
IHC: Where is the decking located?
GT: This beautiful Tali terrace decking is located in the city of Herning, in the heart of Denmark. The 20 m2 decking is made with 100% FSC Tali boards supplied by Interholco, each measuring 21x145 mm. It took about 3 weeks to install the decking and it was completed in April 2023.
IHC: Why was Tali chosen for this application?
GT: The customer wanted Cumaru for a start, but we recommended Tali instead because it looks a lot like Cumaru when it ages and it has very good properties. The customer followed our advice and was extremely happy with the result.
IHC: What challenges did the outdoor terrace pose?
GT: Although partly covered, the outdoor decking is exposed to plenty of weather conditions. The terrace is facing South, so the location exposes the spot to a lot of sun and weather! The Danish climate features a warm summer climate with rain peaking in June-July. Snow concentrates mostly in January-February and humidity and winds are a steady presence throughout the year.
IHC: What about the installation process?
GT: It is installed with 5,0 x 70 mm stainless screws with 8 mm space between the boards for air flow and allowing the wood to work.
IHC: What other factors were considered in selecting Tali?
GT: For the customer, the biggest factor in choosing Tali was the performance coupled to its FSC certification. This unique combination made it obvious for us at Global Timber to recommend Tali as a great, natural choice. Moreover, Tali supplies are consistent in volume and time if the customer wants to enlarge his terrace in future.
IHC: How did Tali compare with other species that were considered for the project?
GT: Cumaru was initially considered for this project. The properties of the two species are quite similar, but Tali had a more inviting price, and the customer was ready to try something “new” – therefore, the choice fell on Tali.
IHC: Any feedback you can share about Tali decking?
GT: Some customers built a staircase from their decking to the garden with Tali and are very satisfied with the result. They just love the look of Tali aging. The feedback we get from other customers is, that they are very happy with Tali, because of its great properties and good price, so they get extremely good value for money.
IHC: Is the sun-kissed flower spot made from Tali, as well?
GT: Yes, the flower island displays Tali cladding! It came along as an add-on. Some more boards were added to the build – doesn’t it look gorgeous?
IHC: Are we at the dawn of a new decking chapter in Denmark?
GT: Our Danish customers are very happy with their Tali terrace deck. Tali certainly has that ‘something’ extra. One of our big Danish customers has chosen to replace their Cumaru stock with Tali boards.
