15.11.2016. In the night between 14 and 15 November 2016, a fire broke out at IFO (Industrie Forestière d'Ouesso), INTERHOLCO’s industrial site located in the North of the Republic of Congo.

Thanks to the timely intervention of the State fire brigade arriving from the nearby town of Ouesso, there were no injuries to staff and residents.

“We are very glad that our team reacted right away, that nobody was injured and that the industrial facilities did not suffer serious damage,” says INTERHOLCO CEO Ulrich Grauert.

After the fire broke out, IFO staff immediately prevented the fire from spreading and then informed the local authorities. The fire was finally contained and extinguished by the State fire brigade of Ouesso.

Although the heat has affected the garage and central spare part stock, both the industrial facilities and timber stock have suffered no damage.

Offers of help and support are being received from neighbouring wood industry actors.

On 15 November 2016, the Minister of Internal Affairs Raymond Zéphirin Mboulou and his delegation visited the site to express sympathy to IFO.

Meanwhile, a thorough evaluation of the actual impacts is taking place and an action plan is being implemented to restore normal operations as quickly as possible.
