In-house production plants combined with a close co-operation with customers

Since its formation in the year 1962 Interholco has continuously developed its market position for African logs and lumber. Sapelli, Sipo, Bossé, Tiama, Iroko, Wengé, Afrormosia, Tola and Khaya/Acajou make up the large majority of our product range. Our customers include manufacturers of flooring, windows, stairs and terrace decking as well as importers and boat builders.
Interholco has total of five sales offices in Europe, Africa and Asia.

As part of the worldwide Danzer Group, Interholco has its own production plants in Africa. Our close cooperation with our in-house sawmills IFO (Republic of the Congo) and SIFORCO (Democratic Republic of the Congo) guarantees reliability, quality and long-term delivery capabilities. We are consistently able to respond to our customers’ individual requirements by staying in personal contact with our production managers in the sawmills. This allows us to ensure that many different specific customer requirements can be integrated into the production flow. Our sales divisions keep in close contact with our customers in order to ensure they get the best possible yield from our products. Part of this involves an on-going review of the species of wood and the specification used in order to satisfy the needs of a continually changing marketplace. With our pre-drying system and our large kiln-drying capacities we are capable of supplying kiln-dried lumber shipped in containers. Furthermore we also regularly manufacture strips, scantlings and fixed dimensions in addition to the normal random specification.

Responsible and sustainable forestry

We harvest our own forest concessions in the Congo Basin with a total area of 3 million hectares. The protection of such high-class wood resources and their economic productivity by means of responsible and sustainable forestry is a very important factor for us. The Danzer Group has initiated extensive measures worldwide in order to guarantee to our customers a reliable supply from sustainable and legally harvested forests.

That includes strict procurement rules for African wood which are certified according to the environmental standard ISO 14001. Furthermore Interholco AG is Chain of Custody (CoC)-registered to supply FSC, PEFC and LVT (Legality-Verified Timber) products. Our own production plants in Africa also possess similar independent legality certificates. The cooperation which was established at the end of 2006 between the Danzer Group and the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF) targets the support of sustainable and socially responsible forestry in Africa. In line with this cooperation the forest concessions of IFO as well as SIFORCO are to eventually become FSC-certified.  This currently represents the largest surface area of concessions in Africa which is being prepared for certification according to FSC criteria.
